SOPAFounded in 1982, The Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) is a non-profit organization providing the platform for Asian and international publishers to network and collaborate on areas of common industry concern, as well as secure a productive environment for the sustainable growth of the publishing business in Asia. SOPA members are drawn from many notable international, regional and local newspapers, magazines and digital publishers, and related industry partners in Asia all sharing the common view of fostering better cooperation and understanding among members.

The Society is dedicated to best practices in professional publishing and responsible journalism. It works to establish and promote best industry standards and guidelines relating to issues such as quality control, professional development, censorship, circulation, advertising, new media and postal rates. It is active in working with international and regional professional associations, as well as local government and publishing bodies affecting the media and information industries throughout Asia.

SOPA facilitates contacts to explore franchise and joint publishing activities. It fosters industry knowledge and skill sharing on the unique challenges and opportunities of the Asia market, for print and digital media, via industry programs such as trainings, events, seminars, conferences, research projects, and outreach programs.

The prestigious annual SOPA Awards for Editorial Excellence set world-class benchmarks for journalism across the entire Asia Pacific region. SOPA also arranges regular seminars and workshops open to members and non-members. In November 2009, SOPA hosted the inaugural SOPA Media Summit taking place in Beijing.
